In this live futures trading session, I was looking to buy a pullback before the market opened, but with 9:30 AM Eastern approaching, I decided to cancel the order rather than get caught in the surge of volatility that often arrives when the New York Stock Exchange opens. It's a good example of how sometimes the best trade is the one you don't take, especially when you know a major market event is only seconds away.

Once the opening bell rang, the action picked up exactly as expected. I was able to capitalize on the increased momentum with a pair of quick scalp trades that added up much faster than many people realize. That's one of the unique aspects of futures trading—the gains can accumulate very quickly, even from relatively small moves, when you have a solid setup and execute well.

Throughout the video, I also explain why I choose to trade futures through a prop firm instead of putting a large amount of my own capital directly into a futures account. While the upside is impressive, futures are highly leveraged, which means losses can accumulate just as quickly as profits. Using a prop firm helps keep my personal risk much more contained while still allowing me to take advantage of the opportunities the futures market provides.

If you've ever wondered why futures tend to become so active right at the stock market open, or you're interested in seeing real-time decision-making around pullbacks, momentum, and risk management, this session offers a good look at how I approach those situations while keeping trades quick, disciplined, and focused on high-probability setups.

Hypothetical Performance Disclosure: Hypothetical performance results have many inherent limitations, some of which are described below. no representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown; in fact, there are frequently sharp differences between hypothetical performance results and the actual results subsequently achieved by any particular trading program. One of the limitations of hypothetical performance results is that they are generally prepared with the benefit of hindsight. In addition, hypothetical trading does not involve financial risk, and no hypothetical trading record can completely account for the impact of financial risk of actual trading. for example, the ability to withstand losses or to adhere to a particular trading program in spite of trading losses are material points which can also adversely affect actual trading results. There are numerous other factors related to the markets in general or to the implementation of any specific trading program which cannot be fully accounted for in the preparation of hypothetical performance results and all which can adversely affect trading results.

In this live futures trading session, I started the day already in the green thanks to a few trades I took the night before after the kids were in bed. That's one of my favorite aspects of the futures market—because it's open 23 hours a day, six days a week, there are opportunities to trade even if you have a full-time job or can't be in front of the charts during normal market hours.

Once the regular session got underway, I found myself in a trade that looked like it wanted to break higher, but the price just kept feeling heavy and struggled to gain any real momentum. Even though the trade ended in the green, it was a great reminder that markets don't always behave the way we expect. I walk through my thought process in real time as I waited for follow-through that never really came before deciding to lock in the profit.

Later in the session, I switched over to MNQ contracts to reduce risk and focused on several quick scalp trades around VWAP, including a small triple-bottom setup that worked out nicely. Along the way, I discuss why I sometimes scale down position size, how I think about balancing reward versus risk, and why protecting capital is always the priority.

One of the biggest takeaways from this session is that you don't have to be perfectly right about every aspect of a trade to make money. My read on the overall move wasn't completely accurate, but solid trade management still allowed me to walk away with a profitable morning. It's another example of why discipline, execution, and risk management matter far more than trying to predict every single move the market makes.

In this live futures trading session, I came into the morning watching for a potential breakout, but what unfolded turned into one of those trades that leaves you scratching your head. I explain how I actually made two poor decisions in a row, yet somehow those mistakes combined to produce a profitable trade. While the result was great from a P&L standpoint, I discuss why it was still bad trading and why it's so important to evaluate your execution instead of letting the outcome fool you into thinking everything was done correctly.

After that unusual start, I found a couple of additional quick scalp trades around VWAP that helped push the session beyond $1,000 in profits. Along the way I talk about why I trade futures through a prop firm, how prop firms help manage risk when trading leveraged products, and why it's critical to remember that futures can move just as quickly against you as they can in your favor.

This session is a great example of trading psychology in action. Winning trades aren't always good trades, and sometimes the biggest lessons come from profits that were earned for the wrong reasons. If you've ever struggled with hindsight bias, discipline, or separating process from results, I think you'll find plenty to take away from this one.

Description: Let's do some live trading! Hangout with me as I do some real time market analysis, answer questions, and if the opportunity presents itself, put on some live day trades. Come join a laid back environment and enjoy yourself over the lunchtime session of the market.
